I wish I could put Mrs. P’s Youtube statement onto a DVD, make millions of copies, and then get the Daily Mail to include one free inside every copy of the The Mail on Sunday. 😈
And preferably on the Sunday before José Blanco (Deveopment Minister) begins his Property Roadshow in London.
How the heck is he going to “promote the strength of Spain’s judicial security” and “personally explain the situation and guarantees of the Spanish real estate sector” after this?
So a letter arrives saying “you have fifteen days to remove the house and all rubble at your own expense”
and Vera Town Hall requests that the Priors undergo psychiatric testing as they don’t believe they have suffered any stress during the last five years…..
Mark would not permit me to post what I would like to write concerning the individuals involved in the above. Which heartless b****rds came up with those? There’s something seriously sick going on in these people’s heads.
Having read those comments recently from Josefina Cruz (Junta’s Housing Councillor), referring to the likes of the Priors as “a group of people who have installed themselves illegally in our land”, I’m beginning to think there is a section of Spanish society that either loathes the English or simply should not be in a position of authority of any kind.
There are some aspects of life in Spain that are difficult to understand, not just for foreigners, but for Spanish people too. That’s why the country has the ‘Gestor’ system, whereby ordinary people can get help, cheaply, when dealing with authority; because the ordinary Spaniard cannot possibly understand laws that are so complicated and difficult and defy common sense.
Add the variance between autonomous regions into the mix, and it gets worse, and throughout the whole fiasco there’s stench of institutionalised corruption, you can smell it when you walk past any town hall.
The Prior case is diabolical, but there are tens of thousands more waiting in the wings. The old fools running the Junta fell out with the old fools running Vera, because of unrelated prejudices going back hundreds of years. The Junta ordered Vera to demolish ‘illegal’ houses, illegal under the Junta’s laws, often retrospective, and the idiots at Vera town hall complied, unfortunately picking on the Prior’s.
It’s a major case for concern and it’s finally being addressed at a higher level.
I’ve found that Spain, generally, doesn’t have a system for compensation, or simple refunds even; if one of the major companies make a mistake and you point it out to them, their system is such that they can’t pay you a refund even if they wanted to – the authorities are not geared up for admitting mistakes, and this attitude goes back for a historical while.
And being a foreigner makes it more difficult yet.

Charlie one can loath any one likes. It is ones choice. What she claims is down right incorrect. THe English have not installed themselves illegally in her land. EU free movement & all that …. The people who work for Junta at any level are on another planet they are punch drink on their authority. I have personal experince of this as I have friends in Seville who work for the JUnta. You have to see the atmosphere in their Cassita in Feria de Seville
Interview with Helen Prior on TRE with Howard Bereton, she makes some really interesting points.
Probably the most important is for people with problems to join the various organisations who are fighting urban abuses. Interesting too that the Embassy in Madrid as usual appear to be sitting on their hands as usual.

Helen has presented a very valid argument and in my experience as someone who lives and works in the Spanish property business for almost 11 years I can safely say that this is the worst case I have ever seen and to be honest I find it absolutely disgusting!
Helen I wish you luck in your fight and sincerely hope you have your home is returned to you with the compensation you clearly deserve. Right or wrong nobody deserves to have their home demolished and treated the way you have, after having taken what you thought and were led to believe, were all the right steps.
I feel genuine anger towards Spain for the injustice this couple and many others have suffered.
I have made a personal decision never to invest a single Euro in the country ever again until this couple receive justice. Even if market conditions changed and it was a more favourable climate I still will not invest.
It may be a futile gesture but enough people did the same perhaps the Spanish government might for once start to take some notice.
This appalling injustice must be corrected if Spain wants to be considered a civilised state.
I saw an advertising billboard at the weekend golf tournament Open de Espana near Barcelona. It said “I need Spain” Some wag should add “like a hole in the head”. 😡
I wish I could take the same stance as you and do not blame you for your decision. What I can do however is help spread the word in both Spanish and English in an attempt to get Helen and Lens pleas heard. It is truly disgusting and the frustrating and humiliating part of the matter is that something could easily be done to resolve this if those that are in power chose to sit up and listen. I agree with your point regarding Spain “be considered a civilised state”.
