I am planninga a short visit to Malaga , and I am considering renting a car through Goldcar there.

Are they rip-off merchants or ok?

http://www.holidayautos.com/ thats the portal I usually use and if you googles for holidayauto coupon or something similar you can get around 10-20% extra in discount. I’m no expert at these things though. They get their cars from places like europcar, goldcar, hertz “think they have their own budget brand now?” etc. Often these companies doesn’t want to show other customers that you can get their cars cheaper from other places

i used goldcar in november last year i have moved my next rental to them as i was not happy with the company i have just used ,gold car do not have brand new cars but they upgraded my hire as the car i asked for was not available and i was not charged any extra, when i returned the car they did not check it but said” leave it there the mini bus to the airport wil be 5 minutes”, 2 weeks ago i hired from another company and decided to take pictures of the damage to the car when i collected it, it was the best thing i have done in a long time on returning it 2 people started going over the car even checked the spare wheel in the boot it was not the car i ordered and no choice but that one which was covered in dints and scratches hope this helps i use do you spain.com seem to get better prices than going direct

I always book through holidayautos using my bank discount (last 5 day hire in Feb was £20!!!)

The last 2 rentals via holidayautos used Goldcar out of Malga and I think they are a very good company.

What you will get when you ask a question like that is a whole host of answers as no doubt someone will have had a bad experience and be more vocal that those that have had no problems.

My last car was brand new (or a least no older than 6 months) so that goes against the poster above!

I had a problem with my car on the first rental in that on the penultimate day of the rental in developed a hydraulic leak at around 5 pm in the evening, we were 200km away in Almerimar. I cannot fault the way they handled the problem, by 12pm at night I had a new hire car delivered to my complex and the old one taken away. No problems whatsoever when I turned up the following day at the office to hand the new car back!!! What I did learn is that they don’t use a breakdown service, hence they drove a flatbed all the way from Malaga that evening with my new hire car on it and then I drove it back the following morning!! If your renting around Malaga then that won’t affect you as they would be with you in a hour or two in the case of breakdown.

So all in all from my 2 rentals I have been very impressed with them. They certainly don’t try to rip you off and I can highly recommend them.

      What do you mean?

All these companies earns a few euros by overcharging you for your first full tank. Or are you on about getting a diesel or not? Something I have been able to ask the guy at the checkout desk if I could get a diesel car instead and sometimes you don’t have to pay extra for it.

The fuel policy is dependent on the particular Spanish hire car company that provides the car. In my experience almost all companies now charge for a full tank if more than 3 days rental.

Remember Holdayautos is the broker and they use whatever Spanish hire car company they have a contract with. In general if you book at the same airport you generally get the same Spanish hire car company. However, your contract is with Holidayautos.

BTW the link to get a discount is available to everyone as I don’t need to log into my bank account or provide an ID. The link is accessible through the public bank website (Virgin one account).

      http://www.virginone.com/

Then the link “Plus One” on the left
      Then “Great new deals”
Then scroll down for the Holidayautos link.

      Here is is in full

      http://www.holidayautos.co.uk/cgi-bin/liveweb.sh/QSearch.w?ctryref=GBR&lang=EN&aff=xOneAccount

And it is a genuine 15% discount. Go to the holidayautos website direct and you will see a higher price.
