CATALONIA / CATALUNYA

Catalonia is an autonomous region of Spain, situated in the north-eastern corner of the Iberian Peninsula.

Its unique situation - located between the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean, and on the border with France - makes it a highly attractive country with a great diversity of landscapes.

Due to its location, Catalonia has always been at the crossroads of cultures. This has left the region with an exceptional cultural heritage that embrace the best from the South of Spain and the North of Europe.

Like other Spaniards, Catalans like to enjoy the Mediterranean good life that revolves around wonderful food and wine enjoyed in beautiful surroundings and in a perfect climate.

However, they are also a very industrious people who have lead Spain's modernisation and wealth creation. As a result Catalonia is the most efficiently run region of Spain, with excellent services and infrastructure. Furthermore, over many centuries, and borrowing from many influences, Catalan culture has produced some of the finest architecture, painting, literature, gastronomy and creative expression in Europe.

In such a geographically diverse country such as Catalonia, with its magnificent and sunny Mediterranean coast, and majestic mountains of the Pyrenees, it is no surprise to find an exquisite gastronomy with a great variety of dishes and flavours.

Catalonia is also home to some of Spain's finest wine growing regions, including the Penedès, where Cava is produced.

In Catalonia there are a great variety of climates and landscapes that range from the high mountains of the Pyrenees to the sandy and sunny beaches of the Mediterranean coast. The country pursuits of the Ripollés, the Costa Brava with its delightful coves of crystal clear water, the Costa Dorada with its fine beaches of golden sand, and of course Barcelona - undoubtedly one of Europe's most attractive and exciting cities - make Catalonia an extremely attractive tourist destination.

Catalonia's climate, its people, its beauty, its modernity, its shopping and services, its proximity to Europe, its communications, and above all, its incomparable quality of life, make it an unbeatable place to live.
