Some pics of a visit today to Mijas to check out the market.

Nice pics 🙂 Know the area well. A very British place for those who like to be surrounded by ex-pats. Popular with the irish too. Suprisingly quiet since when I used to visit. What did you think to the large developments at the back of the town?

It was lively yesterday lunch and my impression was there was a good mix of nationalities, though judging by the number of British shops/restaurants I guess the Brits were once dominant. I had a delicious lunch in a chiringito down on the beach. The fresh, grilled sardines were the best I’ve had in Spain 8) .

Which developments do you mean? Behind the motorway around Calanova Golf where banks are dumping stuff below replacement value (build costs with land at zero cost)?

Or the eyesore on the south side of the valley leading down to La Cala?

Yes it was the second one I was thinking of. Only redeeming feature is it’s sea views and within walking distance of everything…including the nice beach in your photos. We looked at a beachfront property there back in the 90’s, very nice but not private enough for me. One or two nice villa urbanisations scattered around La Cala. I am on the coast in a couple of weeks…maybe popping in the chiringuito 😀

Although there are some pockets of nasty housing, like that development on the hill, my overall impression was that it is a good area, not upmarket, but good quality middle market. Would you agree with that?

Yes I do agree, always had a soft spot for the place. It’s compact and has everything there you would need within walking distance without having to use the A-7. Cheap n’ cheerful but without any of the riff-raff cheap package tourist. Has a very friendly Foreigners dept. too which gives lots of useful advice.
