This report says the new Port Al-Thani at the La Badajilla marina Marbella is looking doubtful, does anyone have the latest news? ❓

Sheikh Abdulla Al-Thani’s Company has been issued with 2 fines which remain unpaid. His Corporate capital investment (part of total cost) has been reduced from 21 million Euros to 4 million Euros, and it is assumed the port will be a fraction of the size described originally if and when built 😮

I think he is a bit of a fraud. He was hoping to attract loads of investors but didn’t. Was all a bit pie in the sky, similar scheme to the one in Dubai, the World, which has flopped, or should I say sinking into the sea. I was always sceptical especially when he had problems paying Málaga FC wages. Very similar to the guy behind paramount project

after a lot of fanfare by by those with a vested interest in the project, little has been reported. But if you look around you find all sorts.
supposedly he’s tried to claim the rental/birthing(?) fees, but people are not paying as he has broken the agreement. There was a legal issue about not allowing for other quotes/proposals, etc….

I think its pretty much what katy said.

Normal rational commercial does not apply to the Sheikh’s e.g if he has not paid the wages that does not mean he does not have the money. Sheikhs, like him do not look for investors they use their own capital.

These, Sheikhs live & thrive on ego’s. Slapping fines would not help the cause of the Marbella Council.

Andrew, as you’re on the ground so to speak in that area, how likely now is for the original project to be completed, a smaller version, or none at all, I think it also included high end properties as well originally? 🙄 And, will Malaga FC sign Messi ? 😉

The conception was very similar to Dubai marinas, but I hear the Quataris are buying up Greek Ionian Islands this year 🙄

Not every Arab is rich and even if he were they are canny!

Why did he not pay the Málaga players their wages, why is he selling the club so soon.

    As this article says

The “saviour” Sheik..all a bluff. He neither pays nor invests.

It is daft to think that all Arabs are rich or all Arabs are Sheikh!! There are plenty of ways to establish one’s identity or net worth.

I am not aware of the finances at Malaga football club. The Sheikh or who ever is the owner do not pay the wages of the players or the staff from their own pocket. The club has to wash its face financially like any other organisation.

It is quite common in Spain, Italy, Greece, etc to not pay the wages of staff for months this includes the Councils.

shakeel sometimes it’s hard to understand you. We are talking about one Sheikh here, not ‘all Arabs are rich or Sheikhs’ why use the word ‘daft’ I don’t think anyone was being daft as you say, merely talking about this chap’s inability to complete his marina as proposed. 😯

Wages of Councils are nothing to do with this marina as far as I know, who has questioned ‘plenty of ways to establish one’s identity or net worth’, you’ve completely lost me again with your post, and not for the 1st time? Struggling to pay wages of Malaga FC though could be linked to non-completion of this marina 🙄

If you know any further details of this marina project then please let us know 🙄

@katy: I am not saying it is right or wrong. That is the business practise in Spain Y punto.

@angie: Don’t worry. I struggle to understand myself. Let me try & clear the position.

” We are talking about one Sheikh here, not ‘all Arabs are rich or Sheikhs’ why use the word ‘daft’ “

This was in response to Katy alluding, that not all Arabs are rich by default. It was/is assumed that all Arab are rich hence, the word.

“I don’t think anyone was being daft as you say, merely talking about this chap’s inability to complete his marina as proposed “

    The above clear this.

“Wages of Councils are nothing to do with this marina as far as I know”

I agree with you that the Council probably has no participation in it. One does not expect a Council who are not in a cut throat commercial world, to have their house in order to at least pay their staff. The majority of the people who work for the Council do so for job security & making sure that are paid at the end of the month. Hence the example of the Council.

“who has questioned ‘plenty of ways to establish one’s identity or net worth’,

As it has been said that the particular Shiekh is a fraud. It is easy for people to find out instead of seriously doubting his financial capacity.

” you’ve completely lost me again with your post”

Not for the first time & apology for this repeat performance.

” Struggling to pay wages of Malaga FC though could be linked to non-completion of this marina

Are you saying not paying the wages of Malaga has link with this project ?. If yes than please refer to Katy email where she had alluded that as he cant pay the wages he must not be in a financial position to complete this project.

“If you know any further details of this marina project then please let us know”

I do not know about the project or has taken much interest in it. I am aware that projects of this size rarely take off due to capital, politics, world affairs. If I have access to that kind of capital I will find many projects which will give me a better return, with less risk & shorter period of return.

I am also told by my friends in Malaga that the same Shiekh has similar plans at ” Banos de Carmen ” a area west of Malaga capital.

What a storm in a teacup…if you want to defend the indefensible can’t you do it in a couple of sentences!

I think the man is a bullshitter and wants his 2 mins of fame.
Most of the media and the Marbellis think he is a fraud.

There you have it, not difficult to express an opinion is it

I am not defending him. To be honest I don’t even know his name or the Country of his origin.

Forum users have to be open minded in the absence of not having concrete information it is better to not to stereo type.

@ Paul so another one bites the dust: 😉

Couldn’t agree more with the comment in OP by someone called Ad:

‘Why not simply spruce up Banus – which to be honest is seedy – and the 2nd line -a disgrace’ 😆
