a FRIEND OF MINE WHO RUNS A BAR NOT TRUSTING THE BANKS DIRECT DEBIT SYSTEM OR THE UTILITY. ALLWAYS PAID FOR HIS UTLITIES CASH AT THE BANK COUNTER.
AS WINTER MONTHS ARE SLOW FOR THE BAR AND TO HELP HIS CASH FLOW HE WOULD PAY THE BILLS AT LATE AS POSSIBLE WITHOUT BEING DISCONNECTED ETC.
LAST YEAR AS USUAL HE DID THIS AND ONE FINE MORNING THERE WAS NO WATER IN HIS BAR. HE WENT TO CHECK WITH HIS NEIGHBOUR AND FOUND OUT THEY ALL HAD THEIR WATER.
HE CONTACTED THE WATER COMPANY, WHO TOLD HIM THAT AS HE HAS NOT PAID HIS BILL ON TIME ( I BELEIVE THERE IS TWO WEEKS GRACE PERIOD) HE HAS BEEN CUT OFF UPON WHICH MY FRIEND TOLD THEM BUT I AM STILL IN THE GRACE PERIOD.
THE REPLY WAS THAT AS THE PERSON WHO DISCONNECTS WASA GOING ON HOLIDAYS WE DID IT NOW ( YES IT IS BELEIVABLE)
WHEN HE REQUESTED TO BE CONNECTED HE WAS ASKED TO PAY THE RECONNECTION CHARGES. HIS PROTESTATIONS WAS MET WITH YES YOU GUESSED IT……
AHHHH……….. THOSE WONDERFUL SHRUG OF A SENORITAS SHOULDER WHICH HAS BROKEN MANY A HEARTS AT THE LOCAL FERIAS

we had a similar problem when trying to change water over to our name. there was a small outstanding bill, so cahange couldnt be done till paid, which we promptly did. about 3 months later, we recieved a letter from galasa informing us they couldnt cahnge it due to outstatnding monies ( now more, and extra penalties. |the bank hadnt passed on the payment, and in spite of receipt being faxed direct to them from ayuntamiento. This was rctified when ayuntamiento contacted them and clarified position, but luckily we were never cut off. Direct debits are a safer option to avoid such problems.
