The Green MEP, David Hammerstein, has added several more Spanish urbanisations, in planning or under construction, to the list of urbanisations under investigation by the European Commission for not having sufficient water resources.

With the Spanish property market in a coma, developers and their banking paymasters are having to be more creative about selling property. In an attempt to drum up a bit of interest, not to mention shift some properties, international property consultants CR Richard Ellis (CBRE) have announced that they are auctioning 190 properties at discounts of up to 32% in online auctions between now and early November.

EU investigates water resources of Spanish new developments

The European Commission is investigating more than 250 new housing projects and urbanisations in Spain that may not have sufficient water to meet the needs of residents, reveals Stavros Dimas, European Environmental Commissioner, in response to a recent parliamentary question by MEP David Hammerstein. The projects are located in located in Andalucia, Castilla-La Mancha, Murcia, and the Valencian Community.

New Spanish house-price index gets off to dubious start

Despite an unprecedented collapse in the Spanish property market, not to mention a monumental property glut that makes America’s housing overhang look trivial, Spanish property prices fell by just 0.3% over 12 months to the end of the second quarter, if you believe a house price index just launched by Spain’s National Institute of Statistics (INE).

Financial smash-up drives Euribor higher

Forecasts that 12-month Euribor, the interest rate normally used to calculate mortgage payments in Spain, would to start drifting downwards in the second half of the year have proved to be wide of the mark. After falling slightly in August, September’s financial smash-up in the credit and equity markets made Euribor – the rate at which banks lend to each other – turn around and bolt upwards sharply. It finished September at 5.384%, just short of its all time high of 5.393% in July.

Valencian developer to pay buyers 3 million Euros in compensation for misleading marketing

A judge in Valencia has odered a local developer to pay 49 clients a total of close to 3 million Euros in compensation for misleading marketing. It is a decision that could set a precedent for buyers who feel they have been mislead by their developers.

Spanish property sales fall by 26% in July

The number of Spanish properties sold in July fell by an annualised 26%, to 46,467, according to the latest figures from Spain’s National Institute of Statistics (INE). Based on figures from the same source, sales fell by 30% in June, and 34% in May, suggesting that the rate of decline in sales is starting to slow.
