Spanish construction sector output falls 8.4% in August

Spanish construction sector activity fell by an annual 8.4% in August, according to the latest figures from Eurostat, the EU’s statistics office. Spain’s construction sector decline was, once again, the largest of all the EU countries tracked by Eurostat.

On a monthly basis, however, there was a glimmer of hope. Compared to July, activity rose in Spain by 1.4%. Month to month output also rose in Germany (+5.5%), Rumania (+2.4%), Slovakia (+0.9%), Sweden (+0.3%), and the UK (+0.1%).

Construction sector output in the Euro zone fell by 2.5% over 12 months to the end of August, and by 1.5% for the EU as a whole. On a monthly basis output rose by 0.1% in the Euro zone, and fell by 0.2% in the EU.
